Organic Chemistry at the University of California at Irvine

Organic Chemistry at the University of California at Irvine

One textbook purchase and a study guide and solutions manual are required for this introductory organic chemistry course. OCW users are also encouraged to purchase some molecular models, so that they can put together three-dimensional models of common organic compounds. Lecture videos are listed on the course site, but the link is broken and the videos cannot be viewed. The quizzes, exams and answer keys link is also broken. However, OCW users can view assignment problems from the textbook on the syllabus page and answers are included in the study guide Go on

Master of Science in Chemistry - College chemistry online

Master of Science in Chemistry

Lehigh University
Cost $25,200
Lehigh University's online Master of Science in Chemistry program focuses on surface and interface chemistry, bridging many areas of modern science and technology. This online program gives individuals the opportunity to obtain their MS in Chemistry by one of three options: 1) a minimum of 30 course credits, 2) a minimum of 27 course credits and a three credit literature review paper (taken under Chm 421 - Chemistry Research), or 3) a minimum of 24 course credits and six credits of Experimental Research-Chm 421. Each of these options will require a minimum of 18 credits at the 400-level (15 of which must be in Chemistry) and one credit of Chm 481-Seminar.
Seeing as chemistry is such versatile subject area, and touches and shapes as many aspects of modern society as does chemistry including: soft contact lenses, synthetic blood, longer-lasting paint, alternative fuel sources, this online MS in Chemistry is an ideal program for individuals looking to further their careers. The study of chemistry has provided the solutions to complex problems and has improved the quality of all phases of human life.
Students accepted in this program can register for and begin their research component at any time, though the Department recommends that students wait until they have completed 18-20 credits of coursework before beginning their research project.
Acceptance into the MS in Chemistry program will be competitively based and will be limited to 20-30 students/year. The applicant must have a BS or BA degree in chemistry or biochemistry. Applications for admission will be only be accepted once a year -- all students will apply for and begin the MS program in the fall semester. The deadline to apply for the Fall 2008 semester is July 1, 2008.

evaporation and condensation of water

evaporation and condensation of water
Steady-state evaporation and condensation experiments have been conducted with water under conditions where buoyancy-driven convection is not present. The temperature profile in each phase has been measured. At the interface, independently of the direction of the phase change, a temperature discontinuity has been found to exist in which the interfacial vapor temperature is greater than that in the liquid. In a thin layer immediately below the interface the temperature is uniform in a layer (∼0.5 mm) and below that the temperature profile is linear, indicating thermal conduction. The uniform temperature layer indicates a mixing process occurs near the interface that could result from surface-tension driven (Marangoni-Bénard) convection and/or from “energy partitioning” that is necessary to account for the measured temperature discontinuity near the interface. When the measured interfacial properties are used with the expression for the phase change rate that is obtained from statistical rate theory, it is found that the predictions are in close agreement with the measurements
